“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist.” This is Oscar Wilde’s quote and I recently found it after a long time. I read it years ago, but it never actually hit me in the way it hit me this time. We are born, we live and we die. And what matters the most, are the years between birth and death and what we actually do it that time. Even though 70, 80, 90 years seem like a long period of time, times flies past us so quickly that we don’t even realize where the years go. Crazy!
At the end, everything that counts are the things you did and the person you became. It’s about the opportunities you accept, the risks you take, the dreams you pursue. You are not on this world to simply exist – to work, wait for weekend, pay bills. Life is much more than just that. Every person on this planet is born with a purpose, with a talent, with strength to live the life they were given. Sometimes you need a little longer to discover which talent is yours and how can you use it. EVERYBODY has something; some of you can dance, sing, photograph, run, help others. No matter what your talent is, use it wisely. Use it, be passionate about it, believe in yourself and big things will happen. You always have two options: you can either take a risk and be courageous or you can let that talent slip away from you.
DOUBT. FEAR. Two of the most destructive things that a person can experience. Once you step out of your comfort zone, big things happen, but not without doubting in yourself and the process. Maybe I’m just that type of the person, but when I start something new, something that I do for the first time, I always think what can happen if I succeed or fail. Yes, I also overthink sometimes, which is usually not okay either, but I’m probably not the only one. Giving the opportunity to start something new can be scary and you never know what will happen, but it’s definitely worth trying. The worst thing that can happen is failure. You can fall down and it will happen. But, most importantly, you have to get up. You have to give yourself and the opportunity another shot. In 90% of new taken opportunities, you will fail at first attempt. But get up and try again. Learn from every fall and use it to come back better. If you keep trying, believe me, you will succeed.
PASSION. Without passion you wouldn’t be able to enjoy what you are doing. If you are doing something that you don’t like, stop it and start doing something you love. Something that you are passionate about. Something that excites you. Something that wakes you up in the morning. Something that makes your heart beat faster. You have only one life, why wouldn’t you spend it doing something you enjoy? Sometimes it’s hard, especially because family and friends are not supporting you or you don’t know how to start. But, if you want something bad enough, you’ll always find a way to do it.
LOVE. Such a meaningful word, but a lot of people forget about it. Why? There is so much hate in the world, so much negativity, so much comparison and egoism. Everybody wants everything. There main goal is to be the most powerful and the richest person in the world. Why the hell would you want to have so much money, if you can’t spend it and when you die, it doesn’t mean anything? Isn’t it easier to be kind, positive, supportive, loving person? I know we are all different and we think differently, but the world would be so much different if we would look into ourselves and just love more.
REGRET. I saw one video the other day and it truly inspired me. They did an experiment in which they asked 100 older people, right before their death, what would’ve they done differently if they have had an opportunity to live their life again. You know how they started their answer? ‘I regret…’ Regret is such a powerful word, which we underestimate so much. Sometimes, when I don’t take a chance that it’s given to me, I regret it. I can’t even imagine how bad it feels when you are old, reflecting your life and seeing how many opportunities you’ve missed. That’s why I’m trying to take (literally) every opportunity that is given to me.
YOU. You are important. Very. Most people don’t realize that being at peace with yourself, loving yourself, accepting yourself, being yourself, is probably the most important thing in their life. It’s crazy that a lot of people beat themselves for everything they aren’t, but forget about all the beautiful things that define them. Use all your strengths in your favour and try to be better each day. Once you take care of yourself, you can take care of others.
Here is my advice to you. Don’t think twice, do things that you love, be yourself and take chances. We have been given this one opportunity to live. Don’t spend it worrying about unimportant things or people that don’t give a value to your life. If you found yourself stuck in some point of your life, don’t let your past define you. Each moment is another opportunity to completely change your life. To start again. To take an opportunity and never regret not taking it. Life is short and it will go past you if you live or just exist. I will end this post with one quote that is probably one of the most powerful ones I’ve ever heard and it goes like this: “You can not go back and make a brand new beginning. But you can start now and make a brand new ending.”
Until next time,
