People ask me a lot, how can I always be so happy and smile all the time. But you can’t be happy all the time, you know. Even if it seems like I am happy every single day, I’m not. There come days that I feel down and just want to be in my room and watch Gossip girl. But I try to avoid as many ‘bad days’ as possible. Life is a matter of choices and I think that happiness is a choice too and every single person can decide whether he/she will be happy or not. When I wake up in the morning, I decide that that day will be the best day so far and that I’ll try to be better as I was yesterday. But how can I be happy almost all of the time? There is not a single secret how to ‘achieve’ happiness, but there are little things that you can do to be happier.
Firstly, life is simple, don’t complicate it. Don’t worry about things that don’t matter and don’t argue about things that are not important. Yes, some things in life are worth fighting for, but don’t overstress about the things that won’t matter in a month or two. Give priority to most important things in your life: your family, friends, love, education, job, whatever you like to do. Also, be grateful for the people who are always there for you, who support you and love you for who you are. Thank them for always being there for you and don’t take it for granted. Always appreciate what you have in life and what’s in front of you – the ability to appreciate those things has nothing to do with what you actually have. It’s more about how you measure the good things in your life.
Be your own best friend: accept yourself, love yourself, respect yourself and most importantly, be yourself. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else and don’t care about others opinion. Other people will have different expectations for you, but those expectations must not be important to you. Try to be better every single day because of you. Do the things for you, not for others. Focus on small improvements and mini-goals and don’t focus on being perfect – nobody’s perfect. If you’ll try to be ‘perfect’, you will get disappointed and dissatisfied, because you will soon realize that that’s impossible to reach.
Always focus on your strengths rather than on your weaknesses. Try to find something that you’re good at and use that something to improve your life. As I already said in previous post; if you’re good at singing, join the choir and sing. If you’re good at taking photos, photograph. It all depends on you, but try to use your strenghts to the full potential.
One of the most important things to be happier is believing in yourself and everything you do. If something is important to you, you won’t find excuses. You will get pass those thoughts that are trying to stop you from doing that things and conquer everything on your way up. Yes, you will make mistakes, but that’s not the reason to give up on your goals. If you expect that everything is going to be smooth, you’re wrong. It’s important that you accept your mistakes, forgive yourself and move on.
One thing that I changed in last year is positive thinking. I was always so negative and in every situation that happened to me, I always found negative site. But I changed that. Every situation has its purpose or reason why it happened. It’s on us how we react in those situations. We have 2 options: whether we complain why it happened to us and think negativly about it or accept it and try to find the option to move on. It’s all on us. Look at the things or situations as opportunities rather than as failures. There is always something positive in every situation: it can move us forward or be a well-learnt lesson.
There are also some other little things that can improve your life and make you happier.
Help others (with money or your time) and try to make somebody happy too. There are so many people in the world that need someone to spend time with them, talk to them, play with them, read them. Believe me, you will become happier when you’ll see that you made somebody smile and that just because of you.
If you don’t know what to do in your life, learn new skills. If you’re interested in trying something new, try it. Why not? Challenge yourself to try something new every single month. It will help you to improve and make progress. Also, if you’re scared about something, do it anyways. You will feel amazing! Those little things will get you excited and your life will get on a whole new level.
Notice and appreciate details and little things about people and different situations. Enjoy little things and focus on them, because they will definitely brighten your day.
What I found that makes me happy is waking up earlier. Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but it works for me. I love waking up before everybody else, enjoying peace and just relax. Sometimes I workout in the morning too and the feeling afterwards is amazing. It’s amazing, because if you wake up early and do something for yourself, you have more time to do others things later in the day that you have to do. If you’re sleeping until 10am, don’t try to wake up at 6 am instantly. Wake up 30 minutes earlier for a month and then another 30 minutes earlier and so on, until it becomes your habit.
“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” Rather than focusing on the bad things that happen in your life, focus on good things and try to look over those imperfections that may bring you down. As I already said: happiness is not what you have; happiness is how you process the world around, how you react in certain situations, how proud you are of yourself and the way you live your life, how willing you are to enjoy simple pleasures. You can have the money, you can have a big house, you can have a private jet, you can have everything in the world. But, if you don’t value what you have, if you don’t have people who love you and enjoy your company, if you don’t appreciate others, if you don’t love what you do, if you’re not proud of the person you are, all those material things won’t make you happy.
Until next time,
